The file gets overwritten if it already exists because it’s content are removed while the new content would be added.

First, I want to write on a file that does not exist. Here in my code editor, I say with open(“python.txt”, “w”) as f:

f.write(“Python is awesome”) and then in the next line, I type:

f.write(“I love Python”)

Save it, and let’s run it to see the output. Having run the code, a python.txt file gets created with the content ’ Python is awesome I love python ’

Here with the strings on the same line, we can change that by adding ‘slash n’ to specify a new character. How do we get this achieved?

Go to ‘main.py’

And f.write(“python is awesome”). Now open the terminal and run the code once again. If you open the python.txt file, you would see each of the sentences in separate lines just as you can observe below:

Note this that while writing on a program for the second time, all other existing files would get erased and new content would replace them, thus, you need to be very careful while using the write mode because you may accidentally erase your content without realizing it.
